Dam Busters

Miroslav
Grim Angus (*6pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
* Dire Troll Bomber (10pts)
* Earthborn Dire Troll (10pts)
Trollkin Long Riders (Leader and 4 Grunts) (11pts)
Alten Ashley, Monster Hunter (2pts)
Lanyssa Ryssyll, Nyss Sorceress (2pts)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)

Rick
Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight (*6pts)
* Shredder (2pts)
* Scythean (9pts)
* Seraph (8pts)
Blighted Ogrun Warspears (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
* Warspear Chieftan (2pts)
Blighted Nyss Shepherd (1pts)
Succubus (2pts)
Croak Raiders (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)

The scenerio is a variant on Incoming (pg 17 SR2015) with a 6" river going directly across the entire board. The two 12"x6" zones are placed on the river representing bridges and the two objectives are sluice gates that can empty the water out between the bridges. Until opened the water between the two zones is deep water (marked "D") and the area between the zones and the table edge is shallow water (marked "S").

Everblight, Deployment
I have my beasts and support fairly central and slightly to the right aiming at the right zone and the warpears off to the left eying up the left zone. The Croak Raiders advance deploy on the left infront of the Seraph

Troll, Deployment
Grim and his beasts are opposite mine also looking at (my) right zone and his Tuffaloes are on (my) left. My warspears prey are the Tuffaloes.

Round 1, Turn 1 - Everblight
I push up aggressively with the seraph slipsteaming the Scythean and running very close to the rigthhand zone. The croaks are also far up. Occultation on the Croaks and Rapport on the Scythean and a liberal dishing out of Tenacity.

Image

Round 1, Turn 2 - Trolls
Whether it is because of prey or tactics the cavalry run sideways towards the righthand zone and enter a forest. Grim and the beasts follow suit and cross country goes on the cows. The earthborn moves to a nearby obstacle for a +2 ARM bonus and is staring down the Croaks.

Round 2, Turn 1 - Everblight
OK well next turn Grim will feat and so we have to do some damage. Upkeep Rapport for free, and occultation and cast a few tenacities. Rhyas moves up so that her control area will catch the back of the scythean's base. I of course forget to feat. The warspears move over to the righthand side and block LOS to Rhyas. The shredder and Succubus chuck out more tenacities. The Croaks activate and the first one coats the Earthborn in rocket fuel. 8 of the next 9 flaming darts hit and the Earthborn (even at dice minus 8) is looking very shakey. The Seraph activates and slipstreams the Scythean forward 2" before pumping three more shots into the Earthborn. It is on 1 health but also burning. Last of all the Scythean charges and goes straight for Grim. Boosting both the inital attacks results in two transfers (to the impaler and bomber), the chain attack misses both Grim and Alten Ashley unfortunately

Image

Round 2, Turn 2 - Trolls
The Earthborn is melted off the table in the maintanance phase. A big blow and Grim is now in damage recovery mode. Alten Ashley tries to disengage from the Scythean but under Rapport the Scythean easily hits the monster hunter. Grim feats but his gun blade doesn't do much. Lacking the charge 3 Cows hit and hurt but don't kill the Scythean while 2 go after Croaks and Lanyssa Ryssell adds more damage. The bomber targets the Croaks and takes 3 or 4 more off the table. With 2 or 3 damage left the Impaler charges the Scythean and hits but fails to bypass his natural armour.

Image

Round 3, Turn 1 - Everblight
The Croaks get to work but it is limited as they are engaged by the Cows. 2 are wounded. The Seraph and Warspears managed to kill only one of them. Rhyas heals the Scythean and casts more tenacity. Under Grims feat there is little that she can do. The Scythean activates and kills the Impaler and one of the cows and forces tough checks. Grim is wounded now and has about 6 health left.

Round 3, Turn 2 - Trolls
Lanyssa manages to roll big and finally kills the scythean. The bomber takes off a couple more Croaks (there is something like 2 left) and then Grim activates. He walks forward a bit and kills a warspear. The two tuffaloes that weren't knocked down charge and through Bull Rush kill 2 warspears and the Chieftan (dammit!!).

Round 4, Turn 1 - Everblight
He's in range and so Rhyas charges. 5, 5, 4 on the to hit roll and Grim is dead with no tough roll. The preservationists have a win and clean water for the rest of the campaign.

Changing Defence into Offence

Nemanja
eFeora, Protector of the Flame (*6pts)
* Repenter (4pts)
* Reckoner (8pts)
* Vanquisher (8pts)
* Vanquisher (8pts)
Exemplar Errants (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
*Exemplar Errant Officer & Standard (2pts)
Exemplar Errant Seneschal (2pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
Covenant of Menoth (2pts)
Rupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (2pts)

Rick
pLylyth, Herald of Everblight (*6pts)
* Shredder (2pts)
* Naga Nightlurker (5pts)
* Seraph (8pts)
* Angelius (9pts)
* Ravagore (10pts)
Gatorman Posse (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Succubus (2pts)
Blighted Nyss Shepherd (1pt)
Blighted Nyss Shepherd (1pt)
Swamp Gobbers (1pt)

The scenario is a variant on Recon with the 12" by 6" zone representing heavy artillery. The objectives are loading and firing points and so nasty 4" AoE can effectively be shot out every second round. The zone is moved to be 3" in front of player 2's (the defender's) deployment zone.

Menoth Deployment
Nemanja's force is fairly central with two of the heavy jacks slightly left of centre. The choir and support are behind them.

Everblight Deployment
I have a row of beasts fairly central and slightly to the left facing the wall of jacks. My beasts are quick and can contest the flag from the edge of the zone if necessary. The shepherds flank them in order to extend Lylyth's abysmal command range. I assume the Errants will come on my right and so I put my Gators there to engage and contest the right flag if needed.
Image

Menoth Advanced Deployment
The Errants go on Nemanja's left opposite my Gators which, on paper, is good for me.
Image

Round 1, Turn 1 - Menoth
eFeora dolls out focus, casts Escort, ignite on the Errants and the choir sing no shooting and Nemanja's force runs forward fairly centrally. The Errants run into ruins quite near my zone ready to contest the zone next round though a few are peeking out. The book says 'No knockdown' and Rupert sings tough.
Image

Round 1, Turn 2 - Everblight
I move forward to the edge of the zone. The Naga primes the weapon and the Ravagore shoots 2 Errants dead and sets another on fire. The Gatorman advance ready close enough so that they can charge the Errants next round even though they are going to eat some crossbow bolts now..

Round 2, Turn 1 - Menoth
With Escort upkept the 4 jacks are quickly moving up the table even without running. Nemanja sings +2/+2 with the choir and moves everything forward. Vanquisher and Reckoner shots ring out and wound a Gatorman, the Naga and Angelius. The Covenant gives the Errants' crossbows continuous effect: Fire and errants start shooting and with good dice rolls kill 2 Gatormen and heavily wound a 3rd that is on fire. Rupert makes them tough again.
Image

Round 2, Turn 2 - Everblight
The 3rd Gatorman dies in the maintenance phase and this means with only 2 left I am going to struggle to chew through these Errants. I am also concerned about the wall of heavies coming towards me (I now know why Stef's Kayazy ran!!). I need to make an impact here. Lylyth activates and feats. She shoots the most central vanquisher does no damage but gets to put parasite on him from 12" away. She buys and attack but misses an errant. The seraph activates and moves within firing distance of the parasited Vanquisher. With 3 dice to hit due to the feat all 4 shots slam into the Vanquisher. I boost all damage rolls but get 4, 5, 6, and 9 on the damage rolls and the vanquisher is completely fine. The Gatormen charge and kill maybe 2 Errants but engage a few more and also the Vanquisher and Repenter. The Ravagore needs to thin out the errants a bit more and again kills 1-2. Now the big charge of the Angelius in the other Vanquisher. I hit the armour piercing attacks but a 5 on 3 dice means I deal a lowly 9 points of damage. The second attack hits but at dice -5 I think I don't even get past his armour. I am overcommitted and my feat is gone and I did sod all. Not good.

Round 3, Turn 1 - Menoth
Nemanja upkeeps Escort and ignite on the moves forward aggressively. She has hands out the remaining 4 focus and feats. There are only 3 models on fire so only 3 more focus. She shifts the fire to the Naga, to Lylyth and a shepherd and gives out a 5th focus to as jack. She camps 2 focus and is at 21 arm on a hill. Unfortunately the forward position of the Repenter means no choir bonuses for it but the three heavies get +2/+2. It takes both the Vanquisher and Recockoner to kill the Angelius. Even without the choir and with continuing high rolls from Nemanja the Repenter kills a swamp Gobber. The engaging Gatorman is killed and the last Vanquisher and Errants slap damage onto the Ravagore. The Senescal assaults him adding more damage and knocks out an aspect.

Round 3, Turn 2 - Everblight
After my last round I am not in a good way. My armour cracker is dead, my Ravagore is weakened and his entire army is coming at me. A shepherd dies in the maintenance phase but the Naga survives. After casting tenacity I move the shredder and remaining Gobber back to save them for later games in the campaign. I have an assassination run but it is a long shot especially after my dice rolls. The Seraph moves forward and headbutts eFeora. With the boost I need 9 on 3d6. I get it. She's knocked down and I buy an attack and with boosted damage land some hurt on her. She's immune to the Ravagores shooting so it has to be Lylyth and the Naga. And now the mistake that cost me the game. I activate Lylyth instead of the Succubus. If I did it the other way round and cast blessed I would have won but I didn't. I realised the mistake straight away but Lylyth doesn't have the fury to cast Parasite and Wraithbane and boost damage and buy another shot so no wraithbane. Parasite and 2 shots into eFeora (only 1 boosted) and she is still on 6 health. I move the Naga forward, cast wraithbane and shoot. I kill on 10 and I get 9 - eFeora survives on 1.

Round 4, Turn 1 - Menoth
Nemanja mops up easily taking out key models before putting Lylyth out of my misery.
Image

Disappointed with the loss. Consistently rolled under 9 on damage rolls all game and still f*cked up a decent chance to win. Nemanja's list probably had 1 jack too many but all that armour backed up by the choir certainly poses his opponent a problem. He was very aggressive and presented me with more problems than I could handle so well played.

42pts Outflank

Nemanja J
Lich Lord Scaverous (*6pts)
* Defiler (5pts)
* Defiler (5pts)
* Erebus (8pts)
Bane Thralls (8pts)
* Bane Thrall UA (3pts)
Bane Knights (10pts)
Necrosurgeon & Stitch Thralls (2pts)
Bane Lord Tartarus (4pts)
Warwitch Siren (2pts)

Rick
Saeryn, Omen of Everblight (*5pts)
* Shredder (2pts)
* Angelius (9pts)
* Seraph (8pts)
* Scythean (9pts)
* Scythean (9pts)
Succubus (2pts)
Forsaken (2pts)
Min Croaks (5pts)
Swamp Gobbers (1pt)

Nemanja has won both of his initial campaign matches against Menoth and Khador but has suffered a few key losses most notably his cheaper arc nodes and his skarlock. I know Scaverous well and Saeryn is a great choice against him with Banishing Ward available. I have won with and lost to Scaverous’s spell assassination run and mean to keep a strong look out for it this time. Seeing the units Nemanja has left I also expect a ‘Cryx harder’ list with lots of weaponmasters coming at me to overwhelm my beasts. Luckily Saeryn’s pretty ok with that too. Despite some heavy losses in my last Menoth battle my list is quite solid. I get the roll to go first which is a huge advantage in Outflank.

Everblight Deployment
I deploy fairly centrally with the Angelius on the left and a Scythean on the right. The second Scythean goes in the middle to support where necessary. I place the warlock centrally and scatter the rest about in between.

Cryx Deployment
Nemanja places his caster in the centre and the Knights on my left and the Thralls on my right. One chicken is central and the other on my far left with an accompanying Warwitch Siren.

Everblight Advanced Deployment
The Croaks go centre left. Nemanja’s Bane Knights need a bath!

Image

Round 1, Turn 1 - Everblight
I run everything forward aggressively. Saeryn advances and puts Banishing Ward on the Croaks to stop any first turn shenanigans and respawn on the Angelius. I don’t want that guy dying on me!

Round 1, Turn 2 - Cryx
Nemanja is already planning for my feat round and spreads everyone out as much as possible. He is very cautious in his advance. Death Ward goes on the Bane Knights and the Thrall standard bearer moves well back.

Image

Round 2, Turn 1 - Everblight
I maintain both upkeeps. It is too far to alpha strike this round but my opponents caution could be to my advantage. With him only start to enter the zones this round I may have the chance to score control points in my next turn. I toe the zones, spam Tenacity and prepare defences. I think I kill a single thrall and make sure not to trigger Vengeance with the Knights. Biding my time.

Round 2, Turn 2 - Cryx
With the scoring starting Nemanja this round Nemanja decides to commit to my left zone. The Banes have Death Ward upkept and charge run. One croak is in charge range and is killed and 1-2 are engaged. Nemanja runs his flanking arc node to toe the zone behind the Knights. On the right he has 2 Thralls toeing in and very far apart. Scaverous starts to trickle to my right – perhaps conscious of the Angelius’s armour piercing attack.

Round 3, Turn 1 - Everblight
OK, enough foreplay. The Angelius moves forward and kills 2 Bane Knights freeing the croaks. They in turn nuke the arc node and 2 more Knights. The Seraph slipstreams the central Scythean forward and shoots one of the Banes (he is isolated so no strafe). The right Scythean kills the remaining Bane in the zone but a string of tough rolls leads to 4 fury being needed. The central Scythean charges Erebus. There is a Thrall and Arc node nearby and a chain attack could be great. One solid hit but then a bad roll triggers a push back and only 1 more thrall is in range I hit it but it toughs again. I am very hot on Fury.
Saeryn activates and feats. I pass out some tenacities and Blightbringer the central Scythean to kill the knocked down Thrall which I do. The succubus and Shredder tenacity some more and the forsaken – being too far back only removes a couple of Fury from the Seraph. I score a CP.

Image

Round 3, Turn 2 - Cryx
Scaverous drops Death Ward from the knights. They vengeance and approach the Croaks. Nemanja is locked out and doesn’t want to line models up for Blightbringer (the spell) and so runs around to engage with a few models. Scaverous and Tartarus move further right (my) and Death Ward goes on Erebus. 3 more Croaks die to Bane Knights.

Image

Round 4, Turn 1 - Everblight
So – so far I have been having it pretty much my own way. This round it changes. Trying to be greedy and have all my beasts functional I leave 1 fury on both Scytheans and they both frenzy. DAMN - this changes my plans dramatically and I am now in damage limitation mode. Given this I decide that going for the Scenerio is the best option. I drop Banishing Ward - intending to cast it on myself andmove Saeryn forward to dominate the left zone and Breath Stealer the Bane Knights. Unfortunately it takes 2 castings. I cast tenacity on myself and camp 2 – there is no spell protection on me and this could be Nemanja’s chance. The Angelius kills a couple more knights leaving 2 left. Again bad play means that I wouldn’t be clearing the zone this round as there is no way that I can get to the Warwitch Siren. I then get a real break. The remaining two Croaks kill the banes with hand weapons. This is a huge bonus to my warlock’s safety.
The seraph kills 2 or so more Bane Thralls and I leave the Succubus toeing the right zone (expecting to lose the Seraph and Scythean) and run the swamp Gobbers to block charge lanes. I put tenacity on the Seraph to maximise his defence with the Shredder and use that and the forsaken to block one possible avenue of line of sight to Saeryn. Not a good round. This is going to hurt.

Image

Round 4, Turn 2 - Cryx
The warwitch charges a Croak and misses. She engages them both and is much safe in melee than facing them with oil and fire. In the other zone Scaverous uses telekinesis to maximise charge lanes. Erebus charges the closest Scythean but even with dark shroud in effect cannot kill it. Tartarus is blocked behind his Banes and can only curse the Seraph. The Thralls charge and kill the Scythean, the succubus and a gobber. Only 1 hits the Seraph which loses his mind aspect but is not too badly hurt.

Image

Round 5, Turn 1 - Everblight
Well that could have been worse. The loss of the Succubus was a really big dent for the future campaign matches but let’s not dwell. Saeryn drops respawn, activates and puts a blight bringer on the Seraph. Both the Banes pass tough but are knocked down. She heals a point in his mind and gets banishing ward on herself. I have no fury on me but am relatively safe. The seraph moves and slipstreams the remaining Scythean closer to the action. He also shoots down the Bane Officer so the other thralls won’t be getting up for free. The scythean puts his animus up and kills a couple more Banes and leaves Erebus with only two boxes left in his left hand. The Croaks kill the warwitch in melee (those 2 guys won the game for me) and the Angelius moves cautiously forward killing another Thrall with his breath. The shredder puts Tenacity on Saeryn and the Forsaken takes the fury off the Seraph so there won’t be any frenzy checks. With my Warlock now dominating the left zone it becomes 3 – 0 to me.

Image

Round 5, Turn 2 - Cryx
Nemanja can’t contest the zone and will lose on control points. As a last act of Cryxiness he kills the 2nd Scythean with Scaverous. Boo!

Image

Everblight wins 5-0
