Belgrade Open 2009 - 26th/27th September 2009

It's exactly one month to go and I wanted to get something on the forum.
(See this thread for details; http://forum.klubzmaj.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7647)
We are expecting guests from Hungary again and also we are hoping to get some more from other regions. In light that this will be the first 2 day event I could really use the "communities" help in organising things.

Obviously it's great to know who's coming to the event for planning tables and terrain but as I would liek there to be a social event on the Saturday night it would also be really helpful to know who will be around for that as well.

Please also put any ideas that might help the event run smoother. Shunka has suggested letting Orao know what's going on so maybe we can discounts for pizzas and sandwiches. Should I get in drinks for the events too?

Just in case - could you also let me know if you have a spare sofa that someone can use for saturday night if necessary.

POz,
Stefan.

I appreciate everything. I am hoping the event is going to be quite social and of the people playing I would say a third are new or inexperienced, a third are social players and a third are serious players with serious lists. The chances are that any new players or social players will only get spanked a maximum of once and then have very fun an equal games.

I am hoping that Malifaux will be at the tournament (the rule books and starters) and that we can maybe do some more demos and stuff. Even if it's just you why not come? You enjoy the game and it should be a good weekend.

U NS-u se vise NISTA ne igra organizovano. Cak i Magic je poceo da se igra turnirski jednom u mesec dana, ili cak dva, pored prereleasova.

No ova tema nije za NS, vec o turniru.

Rick, if you think it could be good, I can make a podcast about warmachine belgrade open 09. I have everything that is needed for podcast, it is almost-proffesional equipment. I only need two jacks for equipment. Well, about playing or just watching, we'll see.

Btw, are there any restrictions, ie I can't field some units, warcasters, solos, or anything else. I didn't find that in steamroller rules...

The normal field restrictions apply so if you're playing Magnus only 2 renegades etc etc.
It's 750 pts armies and you can bring 2 lists and choose when your opponent is declared which list you play. The simplest form of this is having list 1 with Eiryss in and list 2 as an exact copy but with Alten Ashley in - in case of playing a Hordes army. The complicated form is 2 entirely different lists which can be tailored for different scenerios and factions.

When playing Menoth and you come across Cryx then Severius might be a popular choice as he is immune to magic and has ways of dealing with infantry masses. However if your opponent is trolls or Khador then you might reach for Reznik with a couple of heavy hitters. It becomes interesting because in the first case when you sit down versus the cryx opponent you put your list face down. He may have a spam list with lots of Banes and Biles etc but he could also have a Mortey list with lots of heavies and you won't know which he'll play until you both turn over your lists. Added to that the scenerio warrants either quick or fat lists depending on what it is and the Steamroller events become really interesting, tactical and fun.

As I said - I do expect that 50%-60% of the players turning up will have fluff armies though and so it's not always so complicated.

To the next part of your statement. The guys at the boosted damage podcast have said they'll do a report of the event. I was hoping to get them here this year but it wasn't to be. Hopefully next year. So if you could do an MP3 report it will probably be featured though I imagine you would have to do two. A full one and a 2-3 minute summary in English that would get on the show. This podcast is widely listened to so it could be nice.I would of course rather have players though and we could do the summary at the end.

If my fellow moderators will allow me do some shop talk for a bit I'll just briefly go into why I do this event. This tournament won't generate a huge amount of sales. As an event it will be a huge loss making venture but I do this (not Sigil) because I am trying to promote this game and keep a promise that I made when I opened Sigil. There are only 3 real games (Infinity and Wyrd and Helldorado and Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang and Unchartered Seas are really small games). The hobby store does a great job of promoting Warhammer, Pedja is doing a truly heroic job of promoting Flames of War single handed and I do Warmachine and I believe it is as good a game as any of the others if not better. I would like new players and I would even be happy if new keen active players bought models from less keen players so we have more competitive tournaments and events. Thus the reason why I ask you to bring some friends from Novi Sad and come to the event is definitely not to try and squeeze some money out of you but in the hope that a bigger group will mean a better time for everyone. The reality is you'll have a good time regardless of the game you're playing. Yes this may attract new players, but ok - buy your 750 pt army and stick with it - it is very possible to use all of the Battle Box casters to create the core of a very competitive army for very little money. In 2010 I do want 5 or 6 guys to come from England. The guys who run the boosted damage podcast run at least 4 tournaments a year in London. Now if you've socialised with these guys and even put them up for a night or two - don't you think they'll do the same for you in the UK? I not saying this is going to be another Exit festival but once a year why can't a group of 30 people get together have a laugh and go out for some beers? So this is why I am bugging people - I want this to grow into something that people can look forward to. I know that if you come down you'll be glad you made the effort. I knwo the same is true of the guys from Croatia and Budapest. If only 16 people turn up it makes my life so much easier but if we all make some effort this can and will grow.

Rick,

I know well enough that any kind of event, will be money loss for organiser. I never thought that you are inviting us because you wanted to sell us something. I'm aware that bigger the event, the better. Mainly, this event'll bring you moral satisfaction and occasional tap on the back :) Money not included in that box.

The last section of my post wasn't aimed at you - I mentioned Novi Sad as an example. I just wanted people to realise why I chase them so much and keep pressurising them.
I'm really sorry that the gaming scene has taken a nose dive in NS. If you think it's worth it I can get a section of The English Book in Njegosava to supply boardgames and Warhammer. Unfortunately I don't know anywhere where you guys can meet.

The morning of the 26th. You only need to submit them before you start your first match.
Although earlier would be better.

I ask because I would like as many people as possible to show up. Same reason I'm chasing Shark and other mythical players.
In years to come I will be remembered as the patron saint of lost causes.

Couldn't make it today - how about we move this for Saturday/Sunday?

OK,
12 days to go and we're looking at about 24 players with the guys from hungary. This still means 5 rounds. Next weekend I need to start planning tables, boards and scenery so if you are not on the list at the beginning and are coming or you are on the list and are not coming please let me know. The gaming room is on the 3rd floor and I really don't like carrying tables for the hell of it.

Unfortunately customer orders will arrive only a day or two before the tournament so there will be very little time to paint and assemble models for the match. If you find yourself short of models please let me know and I will organise it so that models are made available to you - so don't feel that you can't come just because you only have 500 pts or so - we have mercs and minions galore as well as regular units to lend.

If you have any questions or are wondering what is the best time to come along and visit - please PM me.

BG Open Final Placings

(Player, Faction, Number of Wins, Total Victory Points, Title)

1. Bojan (Khador), 5, 105, Tournament Winner, Best Khador
2. Dule (Cryx), 4, 80, Runner Up, Best Cryx
3. Peter (Orboros), 4, 65, Best Orboros
4. Dalibor (Orboros), 3, 74
5. Marko (Orboros), 3, 69
6. Nikica (Cryx), 3, 54
7. Wolfie (Khador), 3, 40
8. Gabor (Mercs), 3, 41, Best Mercs
9. Ines (Everblight), 2, 58, Best Everblight
-------------------------------------------------------
10. Djordje, 47,2
11. Steva/Rick, 36, 2
12. Shunka, 1, 38
13. Uros, 1, 37
13. Miroslav, 1, 37
15. Stef, 1, 32
16. Srdja, 1, 30
17. Dejan, 1, 28
18. Vuk, 0, 8

I think in fairness the top 3 were the best 3 players. I also think that the fact that Cryx, Khador and Orboros shared the top 7 places doesn't say anything about those factions :|

Nikica also picked up the fair play award. No I'm serious he really did. Yeah, beats me too.

Congrats Bojan, congrats Dule and congrats Peter, thanks for everyone that attended and I hope that a good time was had by all.
